How to Remove “Unavailable” from Variant Dropdowns in Shopify
You have a Shopify store and your product pages use a size selector. When customers open the dropdown and see something like “Medium - unavailable,” they avoid clicking it.

What you want instead is for the customer to click the size, even if it is out of stock, and then use the notify me when available button. But because the dropdown marks the size as unavailable, they never select it, so the notification button never appears. This quietly hurts your conversions.
The good news is that you can remove that unavailable label from the variant options, so customers feel comfortable clicking the size and can use the notify me when back in stock button.
Where to Remove the “Unavailable” Label
Start by going to your Shopify admin. On the left side, click “Online Store” and then open “Themes”.
You will see your live theme listed there. Click the three dot menu and choose “Edit default theme content”.
Inside this area you will find a list of tabs that control all the text used across your store. Open the “Products” tab. This is where the theme stores labels that appear on product pages.
Now look for the field named “Value unavailable”. Inside it you will see something like {{ option_value }} - Unavailable. Remove the word unavailable so it only shows {{ option_value }}.

Save your changes. After you do this, the dropdown will no longer show “unavailable” beside your size names.
This small change fixes an issue that quietly reduces conversions and makes your product pages more user friendly.
